Year R--Spring 2018
A new term has begun and we are already very busy in Year R! The autumn term was all about wrapping up our topic of ‘People who help us’. We got a chance to explore various jobs and were fortunate enough to have the police, firefighter and nurse visit us! The police officers even helped us recover all of our stolen things! Along with this we also went on our first few trips to the library and the post office. Here the children had a chance to explore the post office and post invitations to our govenors for the Christmas show. The Christmas show kept us busy for the last few weeks of the Autumn term and the children had a blast performing for all their adults. This spring term we will be looking at Percy the Park keeper stories and woodland and farm animals. The focus will be on talking about the different charaters in the story and exploring the story settings. We will also be introducing the children to fiction and non-fiction books. In numeracy we will be introducing the children to comparing sets, talking to them about more/less, before and after and begin to introduce addition and subtration through practical problem solving activities. We are also planning to visit the Farm shop during this term where we will be talking to the children about crops and how our food is grown. Along with this, we will be continuing to visit our tree to observe changes as the season turn. We will be sending new high frequency words home this term and will continue changing their books every Monday and Thursday so please remember to read with your child at home.
