Year One have been exploring areas near and far from them this term. They looked at old pictures of when the school was built and have compared what the school looked like then and now. They enjoyed walking around Bedhampton and identifying the key features of their local area. In the classroom, they drew maps and learnt how to use a key. Following this, all the children visited Southsea to see how it compared to Bedhampton. The children walked along the sea front and discovered lots of buildings that Bedhampton did not have. Finally the children visited the Ice Cream Emporium on the pier and enjoyed an ice-cream with a flake, very nice on a hot day!
Recently, the children have visited a local park and thought about how they could improve the area. They have thought of some great ideas, including adding a zip-wire, tunnel and even a water ride! The children will be making models of their ideas, practicing their joining techniques.
The Year One children have also been growing plants in the classroom to find out which plant will flower first. They enjoyed looking at the different varieties; tomato, sunflower and broad bean. They found out that the broad bean plant flowered first.
