Absence from school
Please notify the school as soon as possible if your child is likely to be absent from school if he/she is ill. In order to authorise an absence we need to be informed of the reasons by letter or telephone to explain the absences. We are now required to register all "unauthorised" absences, which are to be recorded and reported annually to parents.
Repeated incidents of unauthorised absences are referred to the Education Welfare Officer.
A child's absence may be treated as authorised:-
(a) by reasons of sickness or unavoidable cause
(b) on a day set apart for religious observance
(c) with leave granted by the Headteacher for exceptional circumstances
If the school is not informed or because of a reason different to those above, the absence is recorded as unauthorised.
If you have an appointment first thing in the morning, please let us know in advance if you wish us to order dinner that day. It is helpful to send a note to the class teacher giving the time when you will be collecting your child.
NO CHILD WILL BE ALLOWED OUT OF SCHOOL UNLESS YOU, OR AN ADULT NOMINATED BY YOU, COLLECTS HIM/HER.
The Governor's Absence Policy states that holiday requests will not be authorised unless there are strong exceptional circumstances. This reflects the national policy for absence outlined by the DFE. The reason for this is that the impact of taking holidays during term time on a child's education often leads to gaps in learning and slower progress.
Out of School Visits
These take place from time to time and vary from educational walks around the local area, to coach journeys, visiting such places as museums etc. Parents are always notified in advance if we intend to take children off site.
You will be requested to make a voluntary contribution for a visit which will incur a cost to the school. We would not of course be able to run such a visit unless parents are willing to make contributions, but if you do have a problem please come and let us know. This will be treated in the strictest of confidence. We will give you as much notice as we can so that it is possible to save up
