This can be an exhausting business, emotionally, physically, socially and mentally. Don't be surprised, therefore, if your child comes home feeling tired or irritable. He/she will very quickly adjust to this change in his/her life
How you can help
It will help your child's confidence and ease of settling into school if he/she:-
• is able to dress and undress as all clothing except underwear is removed for PE
• can cope with a knife and fork
• is able to use a tissue efficiently
• can share toys and tidy them away after use
• has had opportunities to play with other children
• has made use of the opportunities to visit the school beforehand
• has experienced the pleasure of sharing books and hearing rhymes
• has had plenty of opportunity to talk to other children, friends, relatives as well as yourself
• senses that you too are enjoying the experience!
Delivery and Collection of Children
The outer doors to the playground are opened at 8.45 am. Children can come into school at this time. You may wish to accompany your child to begin with. Prams and pushchairs must be left outside as we are short of space and they can cause congestion in the cloakroom areas. Registration begins at 8.55 am when the bell is rung and all outer doors are locked.
At the end of the school day at 3.05 pm please wait in the playground until the teacher can supervise children leaving the building to meet their parents/carers. All children must be collected by an adult from the playground unless alternative arrangements have been agreed between parents and the Headteacher.
If you come to school by car please PARK IN THE RUGBY CLUB CAR PARK. Cars should not be parked in the driveway leading to the automatic gate. Please also be considerate of residents’ needs when parking in the surrounding area.
Hampshire County Council does not permit dogs to be brought onto school grounds so DO NOT bring dogs into the playground.
In the interest of safety please do not let children ride bicycles or scooters in the playground.
No smoking or vaping is allowed anywhere in the school grounds
Organisation of Classes
The arrangement of the classes is to some extent dictated by the number of children entering the school each year. The total number of children in school determines the amount of money allocated for staffing and hence the number of teachers. We have six classes at present.
The Reception year (YR) is at present taught by two teachers and three early years assistants.
Bidbury Infant School has been used by University College Chichester (formerly Chichester Institute of Higher Education) for many years to place their student teachers. We usually accommodate one or two student teachers each year. They are either third or fourth year students who are attached to a class and complete a number of weekly visits for one or two terms, followed by a block practice of several weeks.
They are mentored in our school by Miss Townshend who has been specially trained to do this. The student teachers gradually increase their responsibility for the class and at all times work closely with the teacher, following the school's existing policy, plans and practice. They also receive regular visits from their college tutor. This partnership has proved to be extremely successful and beneficial to all concerned.
Organisation of the day
Each day begins with registration at 8.55 am. There are four teaching sessions and an assembly which usually takes place at 1.00 pm. The school day finishes at 3.05 pm which gives a total of 21 hours spent teaching each week.
Liaison with parents, consultation with teachers
We hope you will feel able to come into school when you have something to say or ask. It is essential to call at the office first.
If you have a quick question or comment to make – please come in when you bring your child or as you collect him/her in the evening.
Please remember that first thing in the morning, the class teacher must give all his/her attention to the class. It is best to arrange a time to suit you both when the teacher can give you undivided attention. This will normally be after school because of the needs of the children.
Mrs Jones is available on a more casual basis, but a telephone call will make sure you don't waste a journey. If necessary an appointment may be made
Once your child has settled into his/her new class, shortly after half-term, you will be invited into school to discuss his/her progress with the teacher. From time to time, meetings are held at which work and activities that the children do are explained, experienced and discussed.

By working in close partnership with parents we nurture the development of trust, respect, confidence, independence, self-esteem and the desire to learn. We provide quality learning experiences with the expectation that all will have the opportunity to achieve their full potential. Providing opportunities for parents to share in these experiences is a priority for the school.
• in every year group we have sessions for parents to play and learn with their child
• twice each year parents are invited to come and enjoy art activities with their children across the school
• in every year group parents are invited to join with other community providers, such as Havant Library and Staunton Country Park, to provide high quality language and learning experiences during school time
• our popular toddler group, Bidbury Babes, also makes use of these resources and services
• parents and carers are invited to our regular ‘sharing assemblies’ when children have the opportunity to talk about their work to those parents
• we also hold regular workshops so that parents are kept informed about how they can best support their children with learning
Reporting progress, Children in year 1 & 2
In the summer term you will receive a written report on your child's attainment and progress. A few days later, there will be an opportunity to discuss this report with your child's teacher.
At the end of the summer term you will receive a review of your child's success in meeting targets set in the previous report.

Throughout the year the Foundation Stage Profile is used to assess the children's achievements. Each term the teachers will share this information with you
