October-Also see the Diary and Term Dates

We have had a very successful first half-term and the children have made significant progress across the school. A huge thank you to Year R parents for developing your children’s independence before starting school. We have noticed a massive improvement this year.

Bidbury Bookworms

Well done to the Year R children who completed the Bidbury Bookworm challenge during the summer holiday. They all received a certificate and medal from Mrs Jones.

Thank you to everyone who donated food items for our Harvest Assembly. The grandparents of our Year 2 children thoroughly enjoyed the assembly and the Food Bank were totally overwhelmed with the amount collected.

The Shoe Box Appeal

A very big thank you to all of you for your generosity. The Rotary Club will be collecting the shoe boxes straight after half term to send to needy children around the world.

Children in Need

We will be taking part in the Children in Need Appeal this year on Friday 17th November. The theme is ‘The Big Spotacular’. A separate letter with all the details will be sent out after half term.

Poppy Appeal

Poppies will be available in school after half term. If you would like your child to have one please send a donation into school in a named envelope.

We will be focusing on ‘Remembrance’ and ‘Keeping Safe’ in assemblies during the week after half term.

Top E Safety Tip

Why not use half term to check your privacy setting on Facebook. To find out more check out the New Privacy Basics at
This link will also let you change the advertisements you see. The latest copy of ‘Digital Parenting’ will be in your child’s book bag as soon as it arrives. It provides lots of important knowledge and is worth a read.

Flu immunisation

The school nurses will be coming in on Tuesday 21st November to administer the flu nasal spray. Letters seeking permission will be sent out to you when we receive them from the nursing team.

Staunton Scarecrow competition

The children enjoyed planning and making their scarecrows. There will be a scarecrow trail at Staunton during the half-term holiday.

Holidays during school time

As a local authority school we have to follow the guidance from Hampshire County Council. As such we must remind you that holidays taken during term time, unless for exceptional circumstances, will be subject to a fine. We have already issued 9 penalty notices this half term.

Year Group news

Year R – have had visits from the police and a fireman and learnt all sorts of things about how they do their jobs. They used some big boxes to make their own fire engine.

Year 1 – went to the SEARCH museum last week to find out about Victorians and the way they lived

Year 2 – as part of the science curriculum we visited Staunton and found out about a wide variety of mini-beasts, camouflage and used our senses to explore the environment. When the children returned to school they wrote recounts of their experiences. Everyone had a great time!

School Photographer

The photographer will be coming into school on Thursday 9th November to take individual photos. If you have more than one child in the infant school they will automatically be photographed together as well as individually. If you have other children that do not attend our school group photos will be taken before school and you should arrive at 8.15 am for at 8.30 am start. A letter will be sent out after half-term.

Parking and Gates

Once again we have quite a few parents parking in the drive way and attempting three point turns whilst children are coming to and leaving school. Please do not park or turn in the drive way.

The automatic gates are quite often opening/closing at the end of the school day. We regularly see adults and children walking (or riding bikes/scooters) in the road and through the gates as they are closing. This is an obvious danger as, not only could there be cars coming, but also the gate could hit a child. Please use the footpaths at all times.
