So far the Summer Term has been a whirlwind of fascination, friendship and fun in Year 1! The children have come back to school with a real thirst for learning and have fully engaged in our recent Science topic. As the weather is warming we have been able to get outside and explore the world around us. We have looked in great detail at plants and the children have investigated what helps a plant to grow, the names of the different parts and which order these parts grow in. We have had opportunities to make predictions and have conducted experiments in a practical way in order to find things out.
Moving forward on our Year 1 journey we will be launching our final topic ‘The Great British Balloon Ride’ which takes us on a wonderful journey following Ted, the teddy bear, around the UK to recap our geographical understanding. Ted will land locally in Bedhampton which will lead us on to looking at our local area and comparing features with Southsea. Lots of children explored the seaside over the Easter holidays and it was great to see this home learning which will now lay a good foundation for introducing new vocabulary and geographical terms. Through this topic we will be learning seaside songs, making our own pop-up books and creating textured landscapes. Lots of exciting times ahead!
