Year 2

Wow! What a start to the Summer Term we have had! The children have come back into school with some super knowledge of the Great Fire of London. We definitely have some budding Historians in Onyx Class and Topaz Class this year. Thank you to the children who had a go at the homework. We have seen some amazing games, fact pages, newspaper reports, models and more!
We have started our topic by beginning to learn about the chronology of the Great Fire of London by researching some eye witness accounts from significant people such as Samuel Pepys – did you know he wrote a diary during the Great Fire? This is how we know most of the happenings from over 350 years ago!

Over the term we will be researching more into the Great Fire of London. We are going to be learning about fire safety in 1666 compared to fire safety now, in 2021. We will compare the two and also learn about how London was rebuilt after the fire, including the lessons that people learnt from it. Along the way, we will be learning songs, acting out the historical event, make models, join in with dances and use instruments to play along with songs to help us learn the events and happenings back in September 1666.
